The NFL is playing a regular season game tonight in Mexico City (SF v Arizona). This follows several Dallas Cowboys preseason contests there.

Could a franchise exist in Mexico?

Probably. With the profit-sharing of the NFL, they could theoretically subsidize a franchise anywhere. And it's not like Arizona is raking it in. Who knows, maybe Mexico City would be an improvement!

Given that 100K+ fans went to the game last night, it probably would be an improvement. Of course, the NFL certainly tried to put their best foot forward by sending the Niners and Cardinals...

Who else but the Cardinals would allow their team to play in another country to begin with? 100K+ is probably more than the Cardinals would get all season back in Arizona. Like I said, it could be an improvement. And from a strategy standpoint, the high altitude in Mexico City could give a team there a substantial home field advantage, comparable to Denver.

Good point....the owners would have to sign off on that. Maybe when one of the next teams goes up for sale? Or would they try something crazy and expand out to like 40 teams (give each division an even 5)? (that would *kill* the talent pool)

If this was baseball, it would be such an easy decision (move on over Devil Rays!)

Well, New Orleans is homeless and in the general area. I don't think you'll see AZ moving soon, given the growth of the Phoenix area into a major market. If they had a good team, they'd be cleaning up. Let's see... which owner would move his team away from a solid fan base? Art Modell doesn't have a team anymore.
