I'm coping with a long workday by checking Ornery compulsively. Since you have all evidently taken a break for dinner, commutes, or bed, I looked through old discussions for a moment and found a very old post from Everard mentioning Elissa Ely's columns.

Then google and I found this

Thanks, Everard. [Smile]

She's a wonderful writer. I stopped getting the boston globe delivered, and either her columns do not appear in the online version, or she's stopped submitting to the globe, or they've stopped publishing her essays, because I haven't seen one in the globe in sometime. Not that I check every day, mind you.

Elissa Ely is still writing, and now sometimes publishing in the New York Times.

"Mankind is still in good shape as long as there are children. Their human nature will redeem ours."

Yeah, right. Children are just as bad as us, just on a smaller scale. Apparently this lady was home schooled throughout her childhood and missed the playground.

Yeah, I thought that essay was insipid. What about Lord of the Flies? I would think that kids, like everybody else, have both kind and cruel instincts. Of course, it wouldn't make for an interesting article to say that.

Why? If we do that, you're just going to be walking around, get attacked by a gang of kids, beaten, your kids kidnapped to be made part of the gang, and your wife murdered. You need to be realistic, homeboy.

That's John, he's the one who got a girl pregnant [Wink]

(To clarify, I hate kids enough to love rubbers.)
