". And it would really annoy doctors too, who do not like school officials with no medical training ignoring their recommendations on matters of health"

But the situation here is a stupid doctor who makes recommendations about how to conduct a competitive sport. Keep her heart rate down as she competes. What crap. If the doctor gets to cover his ass like that, then the school should be able to do so also.

The doctor probably relied on some such guide as the following by the Mayo Clinic, which classifies volleyball as mild exercise comparable to playing golf while carrying one's clubs. What I had not considered is that the practices could be dangerous - if the coach has everyone start by running a fast two miles, that could be bad for a pregnant woman. Serious volleyball players run and lift weights to get in shape for their game, even if the play itself involves too much standing around to provide highly aerobic exercise. But without knowing the details of this particular program, not much can be said.

What happened to the good old days where if you got pregnant in high school you went to visit your Aunt for a year...

Legalizing abortion blew the cover off what was generally happening during such trips, so they became overcomplicated dodges.
