When roughly the same thing happened at the Republican convention, was that "voting, Republican-style?" Or were the Republicans just voting Democrat-style for a bit?

Given the claim that when death came for Chuck Norris death died, perhaps we shouldn't dismiss what is my favorite headline about the Dem convention:
quote:
Chuck Norris threatens ’1,000 years of darkness’ if Obama wins

This is just a tad ironic:
quote:
Organisers of the Democratic National Convention have said sorry for using an image of Soviet-era Russian warships as a backdrop for a tribute to veterans at last week's party gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The vessels were shown on a large screen behind 50 veterans who stood on the stage on September 6th during a presentation by retired Admiral John Nathman.

'Due to vendor error, incorrect images appeared briefly on screen behind fifty-one veterans during the convention and the DNCC apologizes for this mistake,' a Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman said in a statement to the Navy Times.

Link

So, if you were watching the DNC when Retired Navy Admiral John B. Nathman was speaking the very large image of ships going by behind him were from the Russian Black Sea Fleet. You think the fact that the ships weren't flying an American flag might have been a clue.

Oh well mistakes happen. But still it's funny. [Razz]

Guess that's what you get when you subcontract work out to a private company rather than keeping it in-house.

There is no such thing. The US is a State comprised of a number of nations with loose geographical boundaries; it doesn't have the cultural and ethnic uniformity necessary to qualify as a single Nation.
What definition of "nation" are you shooting from, Pyr? The US is founded on a political ideology.

A nation is a step up from a clan or tribe- it's a social grouping of people that generally share a common ethnic, cultural, and social heritage, that can cross political boundaries. The Iroquois are a nation, the Kurds are a nation, etc... In Europe the matter gets confused because it's nations were able to lay down their own borders (hence Nation-States) instead of having them imposed by external powers. Even then, there are some rough patches.

The US is a not fully integrated mix of immigrants from a wide variety of nations.

The map here shows a roughing out of the proto-nations that make up North America, but overall the majority of the population here doesn't have roots that go back far enough to qualify as true nations, and our overall political system as well as the march of communication and transportation technology go a long way to preventing such identities from evolving into more cohesive forms.
