So a number of years ago, I read a book that dealt with a whole slew of alternate realities. I know there are a bunch of those. I thought it was Alternities, but I just reread that, and it's not the one. The one I'm thinking of had a world where Josef Djugashvili, instead of becoming Stalin, moved to the US, where he Americanized his name to Joe Douglas.

Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Just as a suggestion, look at "List of alternate history fiction" on Wikipedia and see if you can figure out which one it was. Several sound possible.

Perhaps it's something from Harry Turtledove; like the Joe Steele short story?

No... it was definitely a novel. And it's not Turtledove. You know... Hogan did something with alternate realities. I should check and see if that was it. I don't think so, but it's possible.

I don't think it was Hogan. It wasn't so much hard science fiction.

I'm working my google fu. Got any more details? Anything at all will help.

Also, there is a forum dedicated to alternate history (man, everything is on the internet). http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/index.php

Maybe they can help.

According to this:

http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/archive/index.php/t-90228.html

It may have been Alternities after all. But I just reread it, and I didn't see that. Maybe I'm losing it.
