Interview with Hugo Barra about the mobile market in China,

http://en.miui.com/thread-12483-1-1.html

Some interesting factoids - China went from 250 million to 500 million smartphones in the past 6 months.

Their biggest online sales sites dwarf Amazon+EBay combined.

Have more than triple the online sales on their biggest sales day compared to the online sales for the biggest online sales in the US.

When China decides to do something, they do it in SCALE.

Build an overpass in 48 hours in the middle of a busy city? Only in China.

Are you using the term crush as a term of relative measurement, or are you suggesting this will negatively impact US cell phone users or manufacturers? (if there are any US cell phone manufacturers ...)

Motorola is a US cell phone manufacturer and I think they see Chinese and other developing markets as a huge opportunity. Their Moto G phone is designed for just such markets.

Pete,

was talking in terms of size of the markets and size of the dominant players in the market. It is strange to think of sites that dwarf Amazon and Ebay combined. Or how dramatically larger the largest online shopping days are for China than the US.

Given the Stock history of NetEase and Baidu, those that have money to play the stock market with might consider long term options...
