quote:
Katrina 'sent by God to punish New Orleans gays'

Angelique Chrisafis
Saturday November 19, 2005
The Guardian

A Democratic Unionist councillor who said hurricane Katrina was sent to the US by God to punish the New Orleans gay community yesterday stood by his views despite calls for his resignation.
Maurice Mills, twice mayor of Ballymena, said New Orleans was about to host an annual gay pride festival when God intervened through Katrina.

It was a warning to nations "where such wickedness is increasingly promoted and practised". Northern Ireland gay rights campaigners said he should be sacked. But he said: "This is me as an individual taking a stand for God."

Preemptive kick to the butt to the first silly-head to blame this on the American "religious right," since I took the trouble of giving you a link to show you where [URL=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballymena] is. [Big Grin]

Religious right is the same everywhere. And people in America have said the same things, so...

Oh, please. How the hell is that any more "right" than your favorite South American dictator saying that Judas Iscariot was "the first Capitalista?" [Big Grin]

Fanatics on all sides demonize what they don't like in supernatural terms. [Eek!]

What constantly annoys and puzzles me is a human being who worships a weak 'God.' Apparently, this God he speaks of needs a bouncer on the earth?

"Love thy neighbor as thy self-except for homosexuals, rednecks, liberals, tax gatherers, black folk, jews, ... etc." Leviathan 1:1 [Big Grin]

I think they worship a weak God because anything else terrifies--or confounds--them.

I suspect the 'weak god' worshipped = 'the unknown'.

Some of our down-island help in the VI asked me (rhetorically): "Where do hurricanes come from?"

I did the usual spin-of-the-earth routine, with the warm-air-rising subroutine, and they actually grew angry with anything like a scientific explanation. In fact, they denounced me in their church and called me a disciple of the devil (the exact term being "sign of Satan").

A vast population truly believes that hurricanes are visited by god or gods on the wicked or satanic.

For this reason, they don't bother to cable their corrugated roofs, they don't cable their palms, and -- typically -- at the very last moment grab their tvs and children and cower under in their cisterns.

Just what are the passages in the Bible that would allay such beliefs? Did Jesus know anything about hurricanes? The islanders think he did; indeed they think he does [Confused] .

I bet if I said my Ouija board told me and a group of fifteen others in no uncertain terms that the hurricane was the earth's vengeance upon the religious right for [insert claim here], I couldn't get a single media source to print it.

Which is only half bad because it didn't and couldn't happen, but still...

Ricky -- thanks for reading in the smily on my statement about Chavez being your "favorite" south American dictator even though I forgot to put it in. I do remember that he finally fell from your grace. [Smile] I can't find the original article that I read it from, but here's one:

http://www.zimbabweherald.com/index.php?id=48286&pubdate=2005-10-28

quote:
Attacking capitalism and its rapaciousness, President Chavez turned to the Bible, saying Judas Iscariot was the first capitalist because he sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

Jesus, the Venezuelan leader continued, was the "first socialist" because he stood for what was fair and just.

I first saw that in a newspaper interview. The context where he's saying it is interesting too:

quote:
with President Chavez alongside, President Mugabe has found a "new comrade and solidarity" from one of Latin America’s most popular leaders.

The front page picture in The Herald issue of October 18, 2005 showing Mr Chavez hugging Cde Mugabe after the latter had delivered a rousing speech at the FAO conference, captured the rainbow spirit and the warmth of the new-found solidarity that touched the two leaders and radiated to all other world leaders alike.

It was like there was a political chemistry between them.

The third's a shoe-in: they've got to recruit Kim Jong Il. Any itea who the fourth horseman of the lefty apocalypse would be? [Wink]

It's true, the gays caused the hurricane.

You see, we have superpowers just like Storm from the X-Men. How else did you think we made rainbows?

Man those people need to read the book of Job.

They sound like Job's friends. "You must have been doing something wrong, thats why God is punishing you!"

Really? Hmm... might be worth it... do you have some sort of power to take hetero's and make them "gay"?

I have the power to turn lesbians straight, but that is detremental to the homosexual agenda, so I was ostracized. I have heard legends of gays who can accomplish such a feat, but I do not know if they are true.

As Robert Graves put it, what is going on in the heavens reflects that which is going on herebelow.
