Scotland Yard has launched an investigation into an audacious attempt to murder – using a deadly poison – a leading Russian defector at a restaurant in London.

Alexander Litvinenko, a former colonel in the Russian secret service and a fierce critic of President Vladimir Putin, was seriously ill under armed guard at a London hospital last night.

Mr Litvinenko, 50, who used to work for the Federal Security Bureau (FSB, the former KGB), fell ill after meeting a contact at Itsu, a sushi restaurant in Piccadilly. The woman journalist claimed to have information on the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, 48, the outspoken journalist who was killed at her Moscow apartment last month.

Russia today is not like other western countries. Or should that read "Russians aren't like Westerners"?

Majority of Russians (76%) consider censorship to be an integral counterpart of mass media.
On the other hand, give a government enough power to control the media, and maybe that could happen here...

Well, I don't think it's a stretch to call censoring information on troop movements and such "integral", and I sure support that. Does that mean I support censorship?

Do you support jailing people for making jokes about the current president? (note that this is not the extent of censorship in Russia, but it is one ridiculous example thereof.)

One has to look at the context, what is meant by censorship. Preventing the names of youth victims from being published in North Americs is one form of censorship, but is only the smallest part of what is accepted in Russia today.
