Weren't we just talking about this? A bunch of artists are touring some swing states to try to push the vote against Bush.

Back in the 80's? The record label he was signed under thought that no one would buy an album from some one named Mellenkamp, so the publicized him as John Cougar for a while then John Cougar Mellenkamp and then, after he had so many hits, he was able to make them drop the Cougar all the way.

At least that is how I remember reading about it.
