At least if you've ever visited Washington, D.C. in summertime (which admittedly is a bad idea).

I haven't had a chance to discuss political issues with Mormons, so I'm wondering if any of you know why this guy is in Washington. Does he have any redeeming feature?

Haven't you been around long enough to realize that his redeeming quality is that he isn't a terrible, demonic, stupid, lying republican who is wrong, wrong, WRONG?

I thought it was kind of funny, but in a stupid, infantile sort of way (just the way I like it!) that is beneath a politician of his position. Good for Cheech or Chong though. But I wonder if the media will censor it like they almost all of the other obnoxious mouth pollution that comes out of some of these politicians' pie holes. If the internet wasn't here, what would we know?

It makes you wonder about what we really knew about anything before we had access to information like this.

I'm not sure he was looking down on common-man tourists as he was pointing out that, without an air-conditioned visitors' center, anybody visiting the Capitol would be sweating a lot.

Eh, hatred of tourists is the one thing everyone in DC can agree on.

Come on, you idiot, why are you slowing down, it's just a freaking statue, there is traffic behind you, omg if you pull out a camera I will kill you myself. I neither know nor care where some random museum is, stop asking me. STAND TO THE RIGHT ON THE METRO ESCALATORS FTLOG I HAVE PLACES TO BE!! I haven't even lived there for a while, and I can still rant about them at length.

As a former New Yorker I can relate to the "get off my sidewalks" feeling.

I was just using Reid's comment as an excuse to ask about him as a politician.

Best I can tell he just doesn't like long queues of sweating tourists ?

God forbid a politician express something universal and human in public.

It's not like he asked a reporter to pull his finger.

Munga,

What is Reid's stand on Gay Marriage? I really don't know and thought you would...

No, I don't know. That would be interesting to find out, or he might be laying low on it. Heck, as you saw on Sunday, I don't want to be ex'd on it either. I figure let the church take its lumps on it, delivered from others, and hopefully we'll end up with something like equal standing for everyone in the civil courts.

Actually found it pretty easily: "No" on constitutional ban against SSM Look down the page to "civil rights"

Well, if Murtha can call his constituents racists and rednecks and still win election, I don't suppose we can begrudge Harry his disdain of the hoi polloi and their odors.

Everyone stinks under sweltering conditions. Racists, rednecks, Reids...

I used to live in Georgia. Racists, rednecks: ubetcha. A fair share of them are proud of such designation.

I'm calling your crap on that one, munga. Please identify any LDS person who has ever been "exed" for supporting ssm, or withdraw the defamatory accusation against your church.

Seek martyrdom elsewhere.

Wow. Just watched the video. I cannot believe that this guy said that. Hasn't he heard of utube? Doesn't he grasp that his words will be used against him out of context in the next election -- in 2 years?

Most importantly, did he forget which state he's running for election in?

Every Nevadan knows that you don't say mean things about tourists where you can be overheard, otherwise we all lose our jobs.

That is going to bite him hard.

It is pretty crass.

a) Build a big boondoggle with taxpayer money.

b) Celebrate by insulting the people who paid for it and actually care enough about the government to visit the Capitol.

c) Do so while also reminding them that you sit around on your ass in an air-conditioned office all day.

People stink. Even when paying interest and respect to a government shrine. Truth is not an insult.

And yes he does grasp these words will be used against him. He prefaced his remarks by expressing that very notion.

Man was being honest, and said nothing denigrating about the characters of the people, only about the armpit and legpit bacteria that run amok in hot sweaty crowd.

" No, I don't know. That would be interesting to find out, or he might be laying low on it. Heck, as you saw on Sunday, I don't want to be ex'd on it either.

Aw. Pete. You infer far more than she implied.

And that was before you ascribed an impulse to martyrdom on her part.

When playing pin the tail on the donkey, it is best to do so without both hands tied behind your ass.

What was she implying, if not THAT, Kenmeer?

Some trio we three make. They could make jokes about us. An exmo, a jackmo, and a postmo walk into a bar. You take it from there.

Truth benefits from regular bathing, liberal application of deodorant, and non-sweltering venues just like we great unwashed masses.

"What was she implying, if not THAT, Kenmeer?"

We might ask her that before insulting her that with that which is yet shown to be truth.

"An exmo, a jackmo, and a postmo walk into a bar."

The bartender, the bishop of, respectively, their eschewed, current, and former ward, tells them:

"No drinks until you pay your back-tithings, you two. You, just pay your tab."

I was thinking along the lines of,

quote:
the xmo guzzles down his drink, and says "that was so good."

the jackmo guzzles downs his drink with no less relish, and says "that was so wrong"

the postmo sips her drink, makes a face, and says [insert punch line]

I can't come up with the punch line. Something about equality?

I don't know what to say to you guys.

I'm a current-mo.

and too quiet in my objections to really make a difference. It just didn't seem right to smack the bishop on the phrase when he was really quoting something else, and the lesson wasn't ON the topic.

I don't know what you mean by "postmo" Pete. If it's something about "postmodern Mormon" then maybe she says "<urk> well, that was easier to swallow than Foucault"

I hazed on postmo. Since Mormonism is protean by prophecy, Mormonism is inherently post-Mormonism.
