Well, that actually is pretty funny. Perhaps it's my Christian heritage that makes me think something about "the spirit, not the letter of the law" but I get the feeling that it isn't something only one raised as a Christian would think is reasonable, neh?

Apologies - I only now spent some time reading.

A very funny story, and excellent job writing it.

And yeah, it's rather ludicrous.

0Megabyte: you're right. Most of the Orthodox Jews I know believe that it's important to obey the letter and not necessarily the spirit of God's law, actually, on the grounds that it's hubristic to assume you as a mere mortal are capable of comprehending the spirit of divine law.

I get the logic of that.

Of course, I agree not at all, but I get it, anyway.

Nowhere in the Torah does it say any of this nonsense. This is all human exegesis.

I am a Mormon and can't stand Utah.

I wouldn't be able to hack Israel.

It does sort of remind me of the rule that liquor stores in Utah can't be open on Sunday.

(The factory controversy, that is.)

Yeah, but if a liquor shop had been opening on Sundays for 24 years... wouldn't you say it's a tad much to be rioting over it all of a sudden?

Technically, if you are going to correct someone's use of an esoteric term, it's also good not to misspell the correction [Razz]
