quote: KC McLawson works for a cafe near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and since the body-scan and patdown controversy last November, her boss has taken extraordinary measures to ensure the TSA knows of his displeasure.
<snip>
McLawson explains.
quote: My boss flies quite a bit and he has an amazing ability to remember faces. If he sees a TSA agent come in we turn our backs and completely ignore them, and tell them to leave.
Their kind aren’t welcomed in our establishment.
A large majority of our customers — over 90 percent — agree with our stance and stand by our decision.
We even have the police on our side and they have helped us escort TSA agents out of our cafe. Until TSA agents start treating us with the respect and dignity that we deserve, then things will change for them in the private sector.
This is legal, being a employee of the TSA does not put you in a protected class like race or gender. Being one of the TSA blue shirts is getting tougher every day, even tips to avoid their constant pilfering are being formulated which almost certainly makes it harder to be in the TSA.
At least they're making us safe right? Right?
quote:An undercover TSA agent was able to get through security at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport with a handgun during testing of the enhanced-imaging body scanners, according to a high-ranking, inside source at the Transportation Security Administration.
The source said the undercover agent carried a pistol in her undergarments when she put the body scanners to the test. The officer successfully made it through the airport's body scanners every time she tried, the source said.
Good news, the source said the agents continue to work the body scanners today.
I don't know the name of that Seattle cafe but if I can find out then the next time I'm in the area I'll eat every meal there ... and tip heavily.

Americans always jump to extremes. We've had the most successful and one of the most heavily challenged airport and aircraft security systems in the world. What the TSA do sounds worse than what airport security here does to Arabs, which is pretty bad at times. The vast majority of fliers here never endure the TSA crap I'm reading about.

I've certainly never endured the worst TSA crap, but I've been the victim of their capriciousness and ill attitude several times. And been forced to suck up and take it because any feedback will result in a missed flight in the best case.
Furthermore, I've had my 88 year old psuedo-grandma, wanded down by two security agents after failing the metal detector. My grandfather told them ahead of time she had a replacement hip. So then (just to be sure) they stuck her in a plexiglass booth in the middle of the security zone, refused to let anyone else stay with her and waited 10 minutes for a female agent to come for a full pat down. She was sobbing in tears half way through the ordeal and when my grandfather tried to go back over to comfort her the security agents snarled at him and threatened to arrest them.
TSA is already full of arrogant goons and the whole organization is less than 10 years old. I can't imagine what it will become with unionization as the you can't fire me mentality takes hold and another 20 years of bureaucratic inertia sets in.

Who knows, maybe they'll actually be able to stand up to some of the crap rather than being forced to do whatever comes down the pipe or lose their jobs.

History tells us exactly the opposite. But maybe a miracle will occur.
