General Comments / So, how is Uncle Joe working for you?
« on: September 26, 2022, 05:23:54 PM »
I am just dropping in for my occasional check-in at this sounding board for an orientation. There are not enough bonafide Democrats, where I live, who have the temerity to express their opinions in public. When I was here last, the general perception was that an incoming Biden presidency was going to address the following concerns. :

1- A COVID vaccine would be expedited to prevent the deaths of a “cool million” Americans. (per DonaldD).
2- N-95 masks would be abundant, because Democrats, unlike Republicans, don’t like to kill people (a concern for Y-22).
3- Government needed to rigorously enforce COVID containment policies, economic devastation be dammed, to prevent “avoidable” deaths.
4- The hilarious news story of a blind computer technician, who claimed to have an abandoned laptop owned by Hunter Biden, would be discredited as “Russian misinformation” (per virtually all leftists on this forum, taking a cue from Joe).
5- Speaking of Joe, we were not concerned about his age, or that he could not keep his pajamas dry, because Kamala would be waiting in the wings to save the day (per Y-22).
6- America would be safe for Democracy, because Republicans foster an inordinate fear of voter fraud which prevents well meaning, but in-ambulatory, Americans from reaching a ballot box through their own devices.

Take your choice, and bring me current. Out of civic duty, I need to update my understanding of the other half of America.

General Comments / “Big Guy” Biden Catches Hand in Chinese Cookie Jar

The continuing embarrassment, VP son Hunter, ramps-up as Uncle Joe’s graft ties to now bankrupt Shanghai conglomerate China Energy Co. exposed in authenticated emails. Is it clear at this point why China was defended against COVID isolation by Joe’s claims of “racist” motives behind Trump travel restrictions?

General Comments / Amy Coney Barrett: not only a Shoe-In But a Leg-Up

I would not have blamed Ms. Barrett if she had turned down Trump’s nomination rather than subject herself to a Senate inquisition. As it turns out, she powered through partisan posturing, by the likes of Amy Klobuchar, as though she was there to school a Junior High debate team during her lunch hour. She not only acquitted herself flawlessly, but boosted Trump’s political capital. :

“By an 8-point margin, voters say that the Senate should vote on Barrett’s nomination as soon as possible, rather than wait to see if the president can defeat Democratic nominee Joe Biden on election day.“

I would love to be a fly on the wall when she elaborates on her criticism of Chief Justice Robert’s error in his ACA reasoning. It seems Scalia has returned... as a woman.

General Comments / Russian Influence, where is the beef?
« on: October 10, 2020, 12:00:55 PM »
In debating with some of my liberal friends, who are otherwise reasonable on most subjects, a curious change has taken place in their broader political perspectives, which seem to track the anomalous election of Trump as a Republican.

First: There is a new irrational, and unspecific, fear of Russian “interference” with United State’s political processes at a time when the actual Russian footprint in the world is a mere shadow of its Soviet heyday. I contrast this with the pre-Gorbachev Russia that was the darling of FDR, and Elenor who saw soviet atrocities against its citizenry as a matter of “breaking a few eggs”, and sympathetic appeals for sparing Julius and Ethel Rosenberg came primarily from the American left.

Yet none on the left contemporaneously viewed Barry’s overt interference in Israeli political processes against  Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the 2015 election, using resources established and developed with grant funds from the Obama State Department drew similar apprehension or disapproval.

Why has Russia become the dreaded enemy to liberals? In what specific ways do they interfere that bother you? I don’t dispute that all countries spy on each other, but the timing is curious to me.

Second: There is an apparent fear that Trump is going to steal the 2020 election along the lines of a Tammany Hall coup, or the “boss” style politics of Chicago... both Democratic phenomena. I concede that Trumpian populism is a democratic transplant into the Republican party, but given shrill assertions of presidential incompetence by the left, why do you fear he could be successful in such a maneuver at vote manipulation?
