Should the FBI record interviews?
« on: July 09, 2016, 12:24:14 AM »
Apparently it has had a policy since 2006 of not doing so.

I really can't think of a legitimate reason to not do so.

Having dealt with the fbi as a defense attorney with black clients, I can think of several illegitimate reasons not to do so...

Marissa johnson is a useless dumb-ass when it comes to the utility of recordings to combat injustice and racism.  She is truly part of the problem and part of the status quo here.

Pete,

I also can think of a number of illegitimate reasons to not do so, just curious if there were any legitimate ones.

I would say no. I reckon Clinton would say "depends on what you mean by legitimate." ::)  but I bet I can stun you with my cynicism, and offer you an illegitimate reason that even you haven't thought of...

The only reason I can think of that could be called supportable to avoid recordings in closed FBI questionings would be in the case of national security, such as if information that should not be made public is required to be submitted to the FBI in the course of an investigation. I could understand that, although arguably it could still be recorded and just redacted if the recording is ever called upon. Since national security cannot have been the reason for Hillary to set up a private server this scenario therefore doesn't apply here, but I guess it's still possibly in theory.

I think the main reason the fbi can't record interviews is that their political managers want the option of clearing an agent or hanging him or her out to dry to appease the mob, according to political necessities, without worrying about pesky facts.  Same reason that Marissa johnson doesn't want cops with body cams.  don't let facts get in the way of a good lynching.

Biggest legitimate LEO reason for not wanting everything recorded is undercover agents(/cops) and (confidential) informants.

Questions would start to come up if they're unwilling to provide recordings/transcripts of interviews involving certain specific persons, but everyone else is free to release.

Of course those shouldn't be recorded. I meant interviews with persons who might get charged.
