Hypnos Music Player
« on: July 14, 2019, 06:03:36 PM »
I made a music player for Windows and GNU/Linux. It's designed for people who have a large collection of music on their harddrive. It's like Winamp or Foobar2k, and nothing like iTunes or Spotify.

You can see screenshots or download the newest version, Beta 6, here:

Full release notes are available here:

I'm kind of a music addict. I wrote this player in frustration when I transitioned to Ubuntu from Windows and couldn't find something I liked to replace Foobar2000 (which is not available for GNU/Linux based machines). I probably tried 30 different players before giving up and deciding to write my own.  That was about two years ago, and I'm happy with how things have turned out.

It's Libre Software released under the GNU GPL v3. The source code is available on on github. It's written in Java using the JavaFX, which is a surprisingly awesome desktop windowing toolkit.

I'm not sure if we have any music hoarders here. If you don't keep a library of music on your hard-drive this won't do you any good, but if you do, you might want to try it out. I think the user interface is pretty sweet and it might make you happy.  Comments/criticisms/bug reports/feature requests welcome.
