Biden speaks from experience on people who sided with segregationists.
Very true!

Yet to learn what he actually said, and how hurt the feels of rigorously non-racist voter-suppressors should be by it, but the maths of which side any actual racists are on seems pretty clear.

Boy, you really picked an article with alot of opinion and very few facts.
Looks like Democracy is working there.  There is a petition to temporarily delay the decision.

https://www.gpb.org/news/2022/01/19/voting-rights-activists-temporarily-delay-poll-closures-in-lincoln-county

Seems like there are lots reasons for closing polling stations other than voter suppression.

Notably:
Quote
Lincoln County's election director said her county of just over 6,000 registered voters north of Augusta does not have the resources or voters to support the number of polls currently open, and argued that the voting rights groups never asked how they could help the county's needs.

The voting rights groups collected signatures from Lincoln County precincts 1B (799 registered voters in November 2020), 3A (489 voters) and 3B (1,003 voters).

Most voters in Lincoln County cast their ballots before Election Day, and many of the polls slated to be shuttered saw relatively few people show up in person to vote. Election data from the Secretary of State's office shows that more voters signed the petition from the three targeted precincts than voted on Election Day at those voting locations in the last statewide election.

I hadn't bothered to follow the link, but going off the headline, I'd kind of wondered "how much do I want to bet that county has a really small population, and it may be in response to a decline in population?" (I hadn't considered the option of their using early voting/mail in voting)

Seems pretty reasonable to me.

If you are assuming I'm a Republican you'd be wrong.
If you are assuming I'm against early voting you'd be wrong
If you are assuming I'm against mail-in ballots, we'd have to talk about the specifics.

Not assuming any of those.  Just wryly observing that there is pushback on both the above lines, whether from the same Republican in each case, each from different Republicans, or indeed -- gasp! -- from non-Republicans.

"We badly need to pinch pennies on how much it costs to run elections!" is admittedly not quite as sinister as the bogus talking points about massive voter fraud, and how we need to suppress votes to deal with this phastasm.   But it's still rather saddening, for those of us that'd rather see the US moving up the Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index, rather than further down it.

Channel 4 News, who even those CINO-by-US-standards British Tories consider to be Marxist subversives, tonight describing Biden's presser as "stumbling".  Though in relation to Ukraine, nothing about the voting right stuff.  War-war rather than the culture-war...

"A real gaff," adds their on-the-spot DC reporter.

"The definition of a gaff in politics is when you say something that maybe is actually true, but you really shouldn't be saying it..."

Not sure where else to put this.

Feb 2022 jobs numbers better than expected, Unemployment drops to 3.8% while the labor participation rate goes up to 62.3%. To me that last number is the important on, especially in combo with the unemployment rate.  If the participation rate keeps going up while the unemployment rate stays the same or drops, that is good for the over all economy.

There's never any need to close a polling place that's been in operation. Leave it be. I don't care if they only get 25 people there, that's 25 legitimate votes. It might make sense to discontinue a polling station for an area that is losing population, that's about it. Don't give me guff about COST. When elections have millions of dollars poured into them and volunteers work for free and the buildings are donated for free.

Unnecessary staff travel? Got it, need to make sure that staff doesn't have to travel, but ask the voters to make the same trip. That makes sense.

It’s clear he’s getting worse. Yesterday Biden finished comment and turned to shake hands with … nobody. He was alone on the stage, hand out to shake with a dementia induced hallucination.  He stood there several seconds, deeply confused, then wandered lost around the stage. He finally figured out where to go but it was a close thing. You can easily find the clip if you’re interested.

This guy is clearly spiraling deeper into his dementia. It’s very sad to watch this elder abuse continue.

Yes, I saw that clip, and it is on a level with many others.

What bothers me is more than the elder abuse, it is the strategizing of those trying to work it for their own ends. They don't want a Communist in the office, and Kamala is a non-starter. When everyone is a liability, what will they do?

Well, I'd be concerned about your reports, but since you've supported (and still support, IIRC) a guy who's apparent cognitive decline has been reported repeatedly for years now, I don't think either of you are reliable sources on this subject.  Otherwise, you'd have been talking about this years ago.

I've also heard Biden talk during Town Hall meetings, and while he isn't the best speaker around, he's certainly head-and-shoulders above his predecessor when it comes to conveying facts and answering the question.  Just consider this recent example.

So if you aren't worried/concerned/bother to mention any possible dementia in our former President, I have a feeling the only "d" concern you have about the current one is the "d" often a-fixed after his name.  ;D

Oh, and just a FYI.  I stumbled across the video of Biden shaking hands with nobody.  If you take away the caption, you can see that he is not doing that.

He is gesturing to the groups to his right and behind him with a wave of his hand.

Don't think so?  Check out the link.  They have a shot from a different angle.  He is clearly giving a little wave of his hand when he is supposedly trying to "shake hands."  He is smiling.  His hand is at a slight angle, not straight up-and-down.  He doesn't look confused.  He knows exactly what is going on, unlike you two.

It is a complete lie.

You guys are so gullable!  ;D  No wonder the Republicans are taking you for all that you are worth.

I watched the linked video. He looks completely confused, surprised by the audience behind him, before he tries to figure out a way to get out of it. He looks exactly like what every dementia/Alzheimers patient looks like.

You’re trying way to hard to ignore the plainly obvious fact that Biden is not in control of his faculties.

Or you're trying way too hard to show that he isn't.  ;D

Here's the bottom line, though: it is obvious to anyone who pays attention that Biden is WAY MORE in control of his faculties than Trump ever was.  ;)  So any supporter of Trump who worries about Biden's mental state is obviously more interested in defaming the President than with any serious concern with his mental health.  Otherwise, he'd be more worried about Trump than Biden.

And, no, he does not look "completely confused" at all.  Biden smiles.  He tilts his hand when he faces those groups.  It's a wave.  Look closely and open your partisan blinders.

There are plenty of videos of his confused and erratic behavior. You can ignore them all you want, make up whatever fantasy you like to explain it, but it’s plainly obvious that a guy that craps his pants (literally) while with the pope is having an issue. If you start watching something besides American media like CNN, you’ll see the entire world is clued in and they’re by turns making fun of Biden or lamenting his cognitive decline.

It’s obvious to everyone in the world except  blueanon fanbois that the guy is in trouble. He has some good days, they trot him out for that but even then it’s heavily scripted with planted questions. You really ought to start paying attention.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/everybodys-mad-at-biden-141138578.html

Less to do here with the physical manifestations of Biden's obvious dodderingness and more to do with his political feeblemindedness, Rick Newman does a good job of nailing Biden on the issues of climate change and gas prices. The video was just as good as the article too. Love the part about how the news of Biden allowing drilling on some federal lands but hiking the fee was released on Good Friday, a time used for burying information, almost as if Biden was trying to whisper the news figuratively the way he often does literally.

One thing that has me scratching me head is how Saudi Arabia increasing production is good at all for the environment or climate change compared to America doing it. How many gallons of fossil fuels are burned in a supertanker's trans-Atlantic voyage compared to what's required to transport oil and gas in pipelines when it's produced here?

Biden ran on transitioning away from fossil fuels. Did he seriously not foresee $4 a gallon gas prices? I mean that's a no-brainer. That's actually just the beginning too and very mild. The policy that Biden ran on should anticipate even higher gas prices than this, much higher, like maybe double, and yet we've just gotten the mildest taste and already Biden's pulling his hair out by the plugs and crying to Saudi Arabia for mercy.

---------------------------------------------------

Just a side note and to tout my horn a little but I agree with trying to transition away from fossil fuels, maybe not so much by governmental decree but it's nice when people try not to waste gas and electricity which is why I love my Prius and now my Tesla. Gotta say that Tesla is nice. Figuring it out makes me feel like a caveman in a spaceship, but that's one sweet ride. I'm not getting rid of my Prius though as 50mpg is also in a sweet spot and for a long trip or when the Tesla needs more time to charge it's nice to have a backup plus it's an old cheap beater car you still can't beat with a stick.

If forced to choose, I'd probably have to side with the environmentalists against Biden for reneging on his promises to protect the Earth. I don't know about man made climate change but I do know there are two other important issues. Pollution is real and there is a finite quantity of fossil fuels on the planet. Whether we have 500 years worth or 2000, it's not fair to future generations for us to squander their resources as frivolously as we do. While we often sing the praises of our ancestors and bless them for the sacrifices they made to get us where we are today, our descendants may well be cursing our memories and how extravagantly we lived at their expense. There's some chance they'll have fabulous new energy sources to provide for all their needs and desires, but it's a big gamble we don't have the right to wager when they're the only ones who will pay the price if it's lost.

I think there are some australian outlets that carry it. Check out Sky News. Opindia has it too, apparently. "the entire world" is a nonsense phrase only spoken by people for whom the "entire world" is their echo chamber. An echo chamber largely assembled from outlets that haven't marked their tenth birthday yet, and were founded as partisan shills. That goes equally for people who said "the entire world" mocked Trump. Israelis were into him. Brazilians thought he was pretty cool. At least large numbers of both.

The entire premise is nonsense. Do you really see Harris blowing her obvious shot at the presidency out of loyalty to a drooling moron who poops himself and hallucinates? Do you imagine the entire cabinet is covering for him? He meets with opposition leaders regularly, is Mitch covering for him also? Is the officer with the nuclear football helping him into his jammies?

No, instead you have doctored photos and footage with leading captions. You pluck out a 20 second flub from a 20 minute coherent speech.

Not to mention, according to your worldview, this was the guy hand-picked by fraudulent operatives across the country. Are those people not part of the entire world?

To be fair The Left pulled the same stuff with Trump.  He trips walking down a ramp.  He has mental degradation because of the way he speaks.  Both sides seem to be guilty of either wishful thinking or nastiness.  Neither Trump nor Biden are 20.  They will have a reduction in balance and sometimes may even have an "Accident."  They are human not Superman.  I am a long way from a Trump fan but I don't see a significant change in the way he uses language now from what he used 20 years ago.  Basically that of a carny pitch man.  Biden has always spoken deliberately with lots of pauses because of his stutter.

It is absolutely appropriate to find fault with someone because of his/her policies and choices.  It is less appropriate to take every slip moment of distraction as a weapon.  Grow up folks.  Don't let your political biases mess with your common sense.  People can be clumsy and/or stupid without being senile.

I'm with you here, I think the attacks on Trump's cognitive ability were misguided. Speculation on his potential mental disorders were more justifiable. Trump partly became a target because he made his virility and feats of strength a major campaign issue, attacking Hillary for being weak and getting sick. Not to mention the doctor's note that he wrote himself claiming that his health was "astonishingly excellent".

I also agree with you, Mynnion.  There was too much arm-chair diagnosing of Trump when he was in office, too.  While I noted Trump's  decline in speech (he talked at a 4th-grade level when he was president), which I attributed to declining mental cognition, I did not suggest that it was from dementia.  (I always hoped one of his supporters would claim that it was because he thought his supporters wouldn't understand him if he spoke at a higher grade level, but alas. :) )

I only provided a list of such accusations against Trump as an illustration of the fact that he was accused of it also and there was more reason to believe it of him than of Biden.  I don't think there is enough evidence to say that either of them have it.  I will leave it up to the professionals to diagnose actual dementia, as we all should.

Meanwhile, if anyone is truly worried about politicians with dementia, there is poor Marjorie Taylor Green.  ;)

She appeared before a judge for 3 hours answering questions.  And most of the answers were "I'm not sure," "I don't remember," "I don't recall," "I have no knowledge of that," and "I have no idea."  She said this about tweets she sent out and things that she said.  It's so bad that she couldn't recall saying something even after watching a video of her saying it!  ???  She memory is completely, utterly shot.

So all of you worried about Biden's dementia should immediately write to your congressman about poor Marjorie's mental state.  If she can't remember anything since January 6, 2021, how can possibly make an informed vote about anything?  ;) ;D

"I don't remember" is a perfectly valid response to government questions (always helpful when your side does the thing "first" so you can be consistent). Marjorie Taylor Green kept insisting that she hadn't said things that she had, in fact, said. Is she stupid enough to think she could get away with it or is she internally editing the facts to suit her current reality?

Yeah, but she was smug about not remembering talking to Mark Meadows about imposing marshal law. Check out the video of her answering that question. It was said with the tone of a subtle f-u to the questioning lawyer.

Hard to imagine forgetting that conversation. "It slipped my mind that I was talking to the president's chief of staff about imposing marshal law to prevent the transfer of power." More evidence the right doesn't care about law and order or personal responsibility.

Actually, yossarian is correct.  Greene was talking about "Marshall law," not martial law,  although she used two-L's.  ;D

"In our private chat with only Members, several are saying the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call for Marshall law. I don’t know on those things. I just wanted you to tell him. They stole this election. We all know. They will destroy our country next.”

— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), in a text message to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on Jan. 17, 2021.

It does bring up the question: who is Marshall anyway?  ;)

So MJG was telling the truth after all. She doesn't remember talking to Mark about martial law because she only ever talked to him about Marshall Law, and nobody bothered to ask her about that. This is a classic "add homonym" attack, very distinct of course from your more typical "ad hominem" attack.

“There have not been many senators from Delaware. It’s a small state. As a matter of fact, there’s never been one,” - Joe Biden 5/2/22

Oh my God, he meant to say President, and said Senator.  Clearly he is senile.

"And so, I think it's hard for people to get their arms around the fact that we have the fastest growing economy in 40 years. Wages are actually up, not down. Unemployment's the lowest it's been under, you know, it's just incredibly low, and it's around in the three-point range."  - Joe Biden 4/26/22

Fastest growth?

Believe it or not, the economy grew last year at the fastest pace since 1984

So okay, 38 years. Wages?

Real wages are not down, and absolute wages are definitely up.

Well, real wages took a hit with inflation. Unemployment?

Unemployment is currently at 3.6

At best LP, you are quibbling in the margins and yet would like to point it out as proof Biden is out of touch with reality?

He makes this statement as GDP declined in the first quarter and inflation is rising out of control.  Sounds like you are just as out of touch as he is.

Yes, I'm well aware of the Bidenflation handwringers. I really don't get caught up in quarter by quarter antics, no matter who is president. Biden didn't say we had the best quarter ever. Nor did he make a prediction about the future.

Quote
“This is noise; not signal. The economy is not falling into recession,” wrote Ian Shepherdson, chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics. “Net trade has been hammered by a surge in imports, especially of consumer goods, as wholesalers and retailers have sought to rebuild inventory. This cannot persist much longer, and imports in due course will drop outright, and net trade will boost GDP growth in Q2 and/or Q3.”

But I know how your headline will read if GDP bounces back in Q2. "Despite disastrous administration policies, the economy managed to grow by n% last quarter."

At any rate, performance of the economy is off topic in a thread that is discussing Biden's mental fitness. The quote in question could just be a standard lie, very carefully planned and rehearsed, even accepting your premise that it is not accurate.

No idea why you dragged out an article from August to support your statement about GDP in the first quarter of this year.

Baby formula shortages 'are leaving a lot of parents in a bind

https://nypost.com/2022/05/12/border-detention-center-has-baby-formula-amid-shortage-photos/

“While mothers and fathers stare at empty grocery store shelves in a panic, the Biden Administration is happy to provide baby formula to illegal immigrants coming across our southern border,” the governor added. “This is yet another one in a long line of reckless, out-of-touch priorities from the Biden Administration when it comes to securing our border and protecting Americans. Our children deserve a president who puts their needs and survival first — not one who gives critical supplies to illegal immigrants before the very people he took an oath to serve.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Kind of the exact opposite of America first. American infants go without while their nutrition takes a back seat to everyone else. That's Joe Biden's America. He's so generous he'd give a perfect stranger the shirt of your back, or the formula out of your baby's bottle. Of course as everyone will say in a story like this, that doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of people in need. It just means that when our own people are in need we should take care of them too.

I can't comment on whether the stocks held by the border patrol are appropriate I really don't have that info and I doubt the authors of the linked article had (or cared) either, but I will note that even if supply of baby food was normal, now there is perceived to be a shortage of it, the shelves would be empty and those who were lucky enough to find it would be hording it rather than sharing it with their fellow citizens.  In the UK at the start of the pandemic there was a massive toilet roll shortage, not because there was any lack of supply but just because people thought there might be a shortage and so bought everything they could see creating a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Laura Ingram said there were never any shortages during the Trump admin.  I guess she never had to buy TP back in early to mid 2020. Or flour. Or yeast. or meat. Or bread. or any of a dozen other items that were flying off the shelf.

Wow, what a BS story. Of course the border patrol feeds the people it detains. Failure to do so would be crimes against humanity. If the opposite were true, Fox would be running a story, Biden starves infants at border. Its not like the border patrol has a strategic baby formula stockpile that could alleviate the shortage. They probably have a small supply consistent with the need to feed infant children that get detained. Please think about the logic of what you are posting.

You're right it is very different from America First, but hardly the opposite. Its called "Humanity First" which isn't America Last but rather America, no special privilege to life. How many of those children require formula because their mothers don't have access to feed them? How many would be able to breastfeed if we allowed the mothers to migrate with the children?

I'll bet there are hospitals with reserves of formula also, just like the border facilities. Are they also hoarding them and keeping them from parents?

Now if you'd like to see what the administration is doing about the formula shortage, read this comprehensive plan

It will help you understand that part of the reason we're in this hole is that Abbott had to recall dangerously contaminated formula - which is pretty hard to pin on any administration, but would point in the general direction of weaker FDA enforcement and erosion of consumer protections - that's a republican thing.

Quote
About half of infant formula nationwide is purchased by participants using WIC benefits, based on both federal requirements and additional rules set by individual states that have a large effect on the availability and distribution of infant formula in a given state.

Which party is it that rails about WIC entitlements, would you guess?

America First? More like Rich America First.

It’s like the entire right only has one brain between the lot of you and you pass it back and forth on a timeshare.

The bulk of the state of Texas loses power for a week during a minor storm because of gross utility mismanagement, customers get handed bills for tens of thousands of dollars to power a single family home and we are told “personal responsibility” and you all preach the power of capitalism and the free market.

Oh ..and then their energy grid starts failing again and everyone is told to set their thermostats higher and conserve energy during the day and it’s only mid May.

That’s to say nothing about all of us paying more for things because Abbott spoiled a bunch of produce locking it up for days in Texas traffic while he searched the trucks for snipe. He’s like a one man inflation machine!

Baby formula companies drop the ball on manufacturing and it’s Joe Biden who is behind it personally.

Maybe the free market you all keep preaching about actually sucks. Maybe the GOP is actively sabotaging the economy again because they’re desperate to make the democrats look bad. God knows none of you sycophants could tell the difference and even if you could you’d dutifully turn you air conditioners up and pretend that hot air blowing from the GOP was a refreshing spring breeze.

The global supply chains sure aren’t working out these days. More failed capitalism. Or maybe it’s just the latest shots fired in Trump’s trade war with China. The Chinese are great at playing the long game. Trump still cheats at golf an your entire political congregation still lies about it to massage his ego.

Trump breaking the FDA and every other federal oversight institution may well have played a role in setting this up too.

Half of our government still doesn’t work two years after he left office.

Maybe that is Biden’s fault. But repairing things properly is always much more time consuming than the psychotic toddler you foisted on America took wrecking them with a sledge hammer.

Why can't the Democrats admit their responsibilities for everything they've done? Nothing failed under Trump. That happened as Biden stopped Trump policies and ignored his achievements. You can't deny that every time Biden blocked a successful Trump initiative that the result was negative. I, personally believe the whole Covid-19 closing of the economy was a Democrat strategy to block Trump's reelection. No one can prove the Pandemic was politically inspired, but it sure has some interesting coincidences that all focus back to the Democrats, though.

One thing we do know, is that Biden is a liar and plagiarist. His blaming of Trump, the GOP, and Putin for his own fiascos is not believed by the people.

OK - I know that I'm going to regret asking this but how do you manage to construe the worldwide Covid pandemic as a Democrat plot?  That seems even more implausible to me than the CIA raiding servers and the Kraken (both of which seem to have faded into the mist).
