Two options:

1. Pence pulls something and a riot breaks out on the floor of the Senate, gaveled down, Constitutional crisis, and the Senate then votes to accept the electoral vote anyways.

2. Pence's name becomes synonymous with Judas with Trumpists, and a riot breaks out in Washington DC.

BLM got pepper sprayed marching down a street to the polls in NC. The police said their permit only covered the park they started at and walking two blocks on a public street to the polling place was an unlawful gathering.

Any thoughts on the incompetence of Capitol police? Uncharitably, I'd say they generally sympathize with the MAGA-type or at least don't see them as a threat the way they do BLM and other left wing protests so they didn't plan for a proper riot. Simply being bad at their jobs can't be ruled out though.

I don't think this is about sympathy. I think they were overwealmed. Whomever was in charge of security was a moron. They should have had backup and plans in place. They obviously had been told not to cause problems. Find out who was in charge of security for the Capitol.
