Sullivan nails it.

This story’s coverage is proof, it seems to me, that American journalists have officially abandoned the habit of attempting any kind of “objectivity” in reporting these stories. We are now in the enlightened social justice world of “moral clarity” and “narrative-shaping.”

Sure there is some MAGA inspired anti-Asian hate crime.
And here it comes... BUT... it seems like a solid majority of it doesn't have anything to do with MAGA or white supremacy. Reporting that doesn't fit the narrative so when the facts don't fit we must omit.
I click through a lot of these stories to try to find out more about who the perp is and what their motivation is and most of the time I hit a brick wall on a description of the perp and total silence about what the police say they may have said was their motivation.
However, when it's a white person we get a photo along with more details about the crime including possible motives.
Many of these seem to be in the mold of the knock-out game though we don't hear stories about that happening anymore to older white people so you have to wonder if it stopped completely or if when it does happen it doesn't fit the narrative so it's just not reported.
