Boris Johnson still has control of Downing Street after a string of close aides quit their jobs, his official spokesman has insisted.

Mr Johnson quoted The Lion King as he attempted to rally remaining staff, telling them "change is good".

His spokesman said No 10 was "not currently" expecting more resignations in the coming hours.

But another MP has submitted a letter of no confidence in the PM as the leader battles to save his own job.

Mass resignations are not "good".

Mr Johnson's official spokesman told reporters that three of Thursday night's departures - Jack Doyle, Dan Rosenfield and Martin Reynolds - had come as a result of "mutual decisions".

But the exit of head of policy Munira Mirza and policy advisor Elena Narozanski had not been planned.

Backbencher Tory MP Huw Merriman told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the PM should "shape up or ship out".

But Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove said it was "the best thing for the country" to keep Mr Johnson in post.

It's kind of funny I see in the news that Harris is asking Hillary for help with her image problems, like Scrooge asking the Grinch for public relations advice.

I don't know that much about Boris but yeah it's not a good look to tell people they can't do something and then be seen doing the exact thing you just told them they can't do especially because it's a danger to the public.

Where else have we seen that?  It hasn't made much of a difference here.

Here isn't there, and national politics isn't local. Honestly though, I'm not sure that is worse than telling people to not have restrictions and than throw a maskless she bang. Sure, that avoids hypocrisy, but is it better?

I might tell people to eat better, and then choke down an entire cheesecake. Does that make me a bad person, or undermine my advice?

Here, of course, we aren't just talking about advice. We're talking about enforced restrictions? If so, we'd expect them to be subject to the same penalties. It doesn't mean what some would like it to mean, that secretly leadership never believed in the restrictions but was just trying to prepare everyone for the antichrist with socialism.

Boris going to Ukraine looking for a short victorious war was darkly amusing and probably threw Putin's calculations off.

One reason why this version of "do as I say and not as I do" is hitting harder than the others is they made the Queen go to Prince Philip's funeral alone. I guess the closest American version would be the President going to the First Lady's funeral alone while House or Senate leadership held parties. It probably lands right on British class divisions. So make it President Obama while white politicians are going to happy hour for the American version.
